Terminal 3 of Beijing Capital International Airport is a passenger terminal in Beijing, China, designed by a consortium including Foster and Partners, Netherlands Airport Consultants, Arup and the Beijing Institute of Architectural Design, and brought into operation in stages beginning February 29, 2008 ahead of that year's Beijing Olympics. At about 986,000 square meters of floor area, it was, at its opening, the largest airport terminal complex built in a single phase anywhere in the world. Its roof is finished in red, a color chosen for its association with good fortune in Chinese tradition, and its interior ceiling shifts from white toward a deepening orange as it extends toward the building's sides. The terminal remains one of the primary gateways serving the Chinese capital.
