111 West 57th Street, popularly known as the Steinway Tower, stands in Midtown Manhattan, completed in 2021 to a design by the architecture firm SHoP Architects, incorporating the preserved facade of the 1925 Steinway Hall piano showroom at its base. At 435 meters to its roof, it is among the tallest residential-only buildings in the world by roof height, and its width-to-height ratio, roughly 1 to 24, makes it one of the slenderest skyscrapers ever built, a proportion enabled by a reinforced concrete structure and a tuned mass damper near its top that counteracts wind-induced sway. Its exterior is clad in bronze-colored terracotta and bronze detailing intended to complement the historic Steinway Hall base rather than contrast with it. The tower forms part of a cluster of ultra-thin luxury residential towers that rose along 57th Street in Manhattan during the 2010s and 2020s, an informal grouping nicknamed Billionaires' Row.
