Albertus Van Loon House

The Albertus Van Loon House is a one-and-a-half-story stone Dutch Colonial house at 85 North Washington Street in Athens, New York, built in 1724 by Albertus Van Loon, son of the early European settler Jan Van Loon. It is among the oldest surviving buildings in that part of New York State, with an elongated rectangular plan and a gambrel roof added between 1775 and 1800; Albertus also donated the land on which the town's church, now Zion Lutheran Church, stands. His family occupied the house for three generations after his death in 1754 before leaving in the early 1800s, and the house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 28, 1980 as part of the Village of Athens Multiple Resource Area.
