Bellefonte Academy, at 225 West Bishop Street in Bellefonte, Centre County, Pennsylvania, began in 1805 as a two story, rectangular limestone school building, expanded in 1839 to 1845, 1904, and 1913; after an 1904 fire it gained a Classical Revival portico of six Tuscan order columns. The academy, whose campus included a headmaster house, educated a Pennsylvania governor, several United States senators and congressmen, professional athletes, and military officers, and formed part of the Bellefonte Historic District. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 7, 1976, but was delisted in 2008 after the building was destroyed by fire on July 14, 2004.
