Bemersyde House is a historic house in Roxburghshire in the Scottish Borders, near Newtown St. Boswells, Melrose and Dryburgh. It began as a sixteenth-century peel tower, a fortified defensive tower house, later enlarged and altered. In 1921 the British government purchased the estate and gave it to Field Marshal Douglas Haig, 1st Earl Haig, commander of British forces in the First World War, and it has remained the seat of the chiefs of Clan Haig since, currently held by Alexander Douglas Derrick Haig, 3rd Earl Haig. The house is a Category A listed building, and its grounds, which include a statue of William Wallace, are included in the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland.
