Benjamin Moore Estate

The Benjamin Moore Estate, also known as Chelsea, is a 33 acre historic estate in the village of Muttontown, Nassau County, New York, built in 1923 to a design by architect William Adams Delano in the Late Nineteenth and Twentieth Century Revivals style, drawing on French Renaissance forms with Chinese influences. The U shaped manor house stands two and a half stories tall beneath hipped and gabled roofs surfaced in concrete block on a concrete foundation, with a steeply pitched front roof, four irregularly spaced chimneys and a brick tower topped by a conical roof. The grounds include a formal garden, a gatehouse, a garage, a conservatory, an octagonal gazebo, a shed and a tool house set among open lawns. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 14, 1979, under reference number 79001596, and the estate is now part of the Muttontown Preserve.
