Boardman House (Saugus, Massachusetts)

The Boardman House, also known as the Scotch Boardman House or Bennett Boardman House, is a historic residence at 17 Howard Street in Saugus, Massachusetts, purchased by William Boardman in 1686, though dendrochronology of its timbers has since dated its actual construction to 1692. Built originally as a hall and parlor house, it was converted to a saltbox form in 1696. The house was named a National Historic Landmark in 1961 primarily because of the unusually large amount of original seventeenth century building material still present in its structure, making it an important surviving example of early New England colonial architecture. Historic New England has owned and maintained the property since 1914, and it operates today as a historic house museum, open to the public on select weekends from June through October.
