Boidstones Place

Boidstones Place, also known as Greenbrakes and Fountain Rock, is a historic house built in 1766 by Thomas Boydston near Shepherdstown, West Virginia, on land granted to him by Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron. Boydston lost most of his land in a dispute with Fairfax and Joist Hite over holdings along the Terrapin Neck on the Potomac River, and the property passed to Abraham Shepherd, becoming part of the Shepherd family horse breeding holdings along Shepherd Grade. In 1851 R. D. Shepherd gave Boidstones to his nephew and namesake, who built the main Greek Revival section of the house; the property left the Shepherd family in 1886 and returned to it in 1916 for use as a summer home.
