Bollingen Tower

Bollingen Tower is a stone retreat on the shore of the upper basin of Lake Zurich near the village of Bollingen, Switzerland, built by the Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung. Jung acquired the site in 1922 and built an initial round tower himself in 1923, then expanded the structure in stages in 1927, 1931 and 1935 until it took the form of a small four towered castle. He added a second floor to the 1927 wing after his wife's death in 1955, work he described as an extension of consciousness achieved in old age. Jung spent months there most years for the rest of his life, and the tower remains a private residence held by a family trust.
