Caerleon, Bellevue Hill

Caerleon is a historic house in the Sydney suburb of Bellevue Hill, New South Wales, Australia, construction of which began in 1885 for Charles B. Fairfax, a member of the Fairfax family. The original plans were drawn by Sydney architect Harry Kent, who supervised construction, but were substantially reworked in London by the architect Maurice Adams; a controversy arose after Kent name was omitted from the exhibited plans. Built in the Queen Anne style, the house is said to have been the first Queen Anne home in Australia, and it helped establish the aesthetic that the later Federation Queen Anne style would follow. It takes its name from Caerleon, a small town in Wales. The house is listed on the Register of the National Estate and carries New South Wales heritage listing.
