The California Academy of Sciences is a research institute and natural history museum building in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, California, founded in 1853 as a learned society and now counted among the largest natural history museums in the world. Its collections hold more than 46 million specimens, and the institution continues to carry out original scientific research alongside its public exhibits.
