The Castello di Santa Margherita Ligure is a 16th-century fortress in Santa Margherita Ligure, in the Metropolitan City of Genoa, built by the Republic of Genoa after a Senate resolution of 1550 to defend the coast against Barbary pirate raids. Construction began and was largely completed within 1550 to a design by Antonio de Carabo, who also designed the Castello di Rapallo. The fort lost its military purpose once pirate attacks ceased in the 18th century and was restored after the First World War as a memorial to the town's war dead; it remains intact and is owned by the Comune di Santa Margherita Ligure, which keeps it open to the public.
