Clifton is a historic house north of Hamilton off Virginia Route 690 in Cumberland County, Virginia, on a 250-acre estate. Built about 1760, it is a two-story, seven-bay frame dwelling in the Georgian style with a hipped roof, a one-bay one-story wing on its west end, and a three-bay one-story gabled porch carried on elongated Tuscan-order columns. The house was the home of Carter Henry Harrison, a member of the Cumberland Committee of Safety who wrote the Instructions for Independence presented to the Virginia Convention of May 1776. Clifton was entered on the Virginia Landmarks Register on April 17, 1973, and the National Register of Historic Places on June 19, 1973.
