The Commerzbank Tower is a 56-story office skyscraper at Kaiserplatz 1 in Frankfurt banking district, designed by Foster and Partners under Norman Foster with Arup and Krebs and Kiefer as structural engineers. Completed in 1997, it rises 258.7 meters to its roof and 300.1 meters including its antenna, making it Germany tallest building. Marketed as the world first ecological skyscraper, it is built around a triangular atrium with sky gardens set at nine different levels that bring daylight into the tower and reduce its need for artificial lighting, and it was among the first German skyscrapers to use a steel rather than concrete structural frame. It briefly held the title of tallest building in the European Union after the United Kingdom left the EU, until Poland Varso Tower surpassed it in 2021.
