The Culbertson Mansion is a Second Empire style mansion at 914 East Main Street in New Albany, Indiana, overlooking the Ohio River. It was built between 1867 and 1869 for William Culbertson, described as once the richest man in Indiana, to a design by the local architect James T. Banes, at a construction cost of about 120,000 dollars. The finished house holds 25 rooms across 20,000 square feet and is noted for hand-painted and frescoed ceilings, hand-painted floors, a carved rosewood-grained staircase, marble fireplaces, and an imported Scottish tin roof. It is now operated as the Culbertson Mansion State Historic Site, open for tours that present the Culbertson family's history alongside the building's restoration.
