Donizetti's birthplace, known in Italian as the Casa natale di Gaetano Donizetti, is a house in Bergamo, in the Lombardy region of Italy, where the opera composer Gaetano Donizetti was born on 29 November 1797. Its oldest sections date to the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, and the building shows four stories on one street front and five on the other; the Donizetti family lived in the basement level, where the composer's father worked as caretaker of a municipal pawnshop. Since 2009 the house has operated as a museum run by the Donizetti Foundation, open to visitors on Sundays and by weekday appointment.
