Dr. Abram Jordan House

The Dr. Abram Jordan House, also called the Wedding Present House, stands on NY Route 23 in Claverack-Red Mills, New York, near Hudson. Built in 1822 by the landowner Peter Mesick as a wedding gift for his daughter Catherine and her husband Dr. Abram Jordan, the brick, white painted, green shuttered house is a two story, five by two bay Federal style dwelling with a low gabled roof, later given Greek Revival pediments and carved mantels and plasterwork in an 1845 renovation. The property keeps a contemporary brick smokehouse and two 1845 barns with extensive Greek Revival ornament, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 9, 1999, as an example of the Federal style in the eastern upper Hudson Valley.
