Elizabeth Bishop House

The Elizabeth Bishop House, also known as the Bulmer House, is a historic single family house in Great Village, Nova Scotia. It is associated with the Pulitzer Prize winning poet Elizabeth Bishop, who spent summers there in her youth with her maternal grandparents William Brown Bulmer and Elizabeth Hutchinson Bulmer, and who drew on Great Village and Nova Scotia for many of her stories and poems. The Bulmer family bought the property in 1874, though the date of its construction is not known, and in 1997 the house was recognized as a Nova Scotia Provincially Recognized Heritage Site both for its connection to Bishop and for its architecture as a typical one and a half story Classical Revival dwelling of a type common to rural Nova Scotia.
