Episcopal Palace, Astorga

The Episcopal Palace of Astorga is a building in Astorga, in the Spanish province of Leon, designed by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi and built between 1889 and 1913. It is one of only three buildings Gaudi completed outside Catalonia, raised in gray granite in a neo medieval Catalan Modernisme style after fire destroyed the earlier episcopal palace on the site. Gaudi resigned from the project in 1893 after the bishop who commissioned it died, and the architect Ricardo Garcia Guereta finished the building between 1907 and 1915. It later served as a Falange headquarters during the Spanish Civil War and today houses the Museo de los Caminos, a museum of religious art devoted to the Way of St James.
