The Grand Ducal Palace, in Luxembourg City, is the official residence and workplace of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg. It was originally built as the city hall in the sixteenth century before being expanded over time into a princely and later grand ducal residence, most notably gaining Renaissance and later Moorish-influenced facade elements added during the nineteenth century. A ceremonial changing of the guard takes place at the palace entrance. It is one of only a small number of surviving reigning grand ducal or princely residences in Europe.
