Green Spring Plantation

Green Spring Plantation, about five miles west of Williamsburg in James City County, Virginia, was the seventeenth-century home of colonial Virginia governor Sir William Berkeley and his wife Frances Culpeper Berkeley, built in 1645 on what was originally a 2,090-acre experimental farm. The property witnessed Bacon's Rebellion in 1676 and the Revolutionary War's Battle of Green Spring in 1781. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, the surviving 190 acres are now managed by the National Park Service as part of Colonial National Historical Park.
