Greenway Court, Virginia

Greenway Court is a historic estate near White Post in Clarke County, Virginia, established in 1748 as the seat of Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron, the only hereditary British peer to live in colonial North America and proprietor of more than five million acres held under the Northern Neck grant. A young George Washington worked as a surveyor across Fairfax's holdings from the estate. The original timber main house collapsed in 1834, but surviving structures include an 1828 brick farmhouse and a stone land office built around 1762. Greenway Court was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960.
