Holmwood House

Holmwood House is a Greek Revival villa at Netherlee Road in Cathcart, Glasgow, Scotland, designed by the architect Alexander Greek Thomson and built between 1857 and 1858. It is regarded as the finest and most elaborate of the residential villas Thomson designed, and it keeps much of its original interior decoration, including a dining-room frieze based on John Flaxman's illustrations of Homer and sculpture by George Mossman. Thomson's published designs later influenced Frank Lloyd Wright and other early modernist architects. The National Trust for Scotland has owned Holmwood House since 1994, restored it in 1997 and 1998 with Page\\Park Architects, and now operates it as a house museum; the villa also appeared on a commemorative twenty pound banknote issued in 1999 when Glasgow was UK City of Architecture and Design.
