The Imperial Furniture Collection, known in German as the Hofmobiliendepot, is a furniture museum on Andreasgasse in Vienna seventh district, established in 1747 to store furnishings for the Habsburg imperial household. It now holds around 160,000 pieces, built up as the imperial family refreshed their residences to match changing tastes, and its collection includes work by early twentieth century designers such as Adolf Loos, Josef Hoffmann and Otto Wagner, who shaped Viennese domestic architecture. Ownership passed to the Austrian state after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1919. Its furniture still circulates in practical use today, lent to government ministries, embassies and film productions in addition to its museum display.
