Karadordevo estate

The Karadordevo estate is a 69.14-square-kilometer property about 10 kilometers northwest of Backa Palanka, Serbia, containing a manor house, hunting grounds, a stud farm, agricultural facilities, and forest and wetland habitat. Established as state property under the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1885, it became a retreat for political and military elites, and its stud farm, founded in 1904 with stock from the Hungarian State Stud at Mezohegyes, produced noted horses. Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito met with league leaders there in 1971 amid the suppression of the Croatian Spring, and in 1991 Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic and Croatian President Franjo Tudman held a meeting at the estate on the eve of the Yugoslav wars; it is now managed by the Serbian Ministry of Defence, with part of its land protected as a nature reserve.
