Lincoln Medieval Bishop's Palace

The Old Bishop's Palace in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England was built beginning around 1175 as the residence of the bishops overseeing the large medieval Diocese of Lincoln, and is counted among the most impressive buildings of medieval England. Sited on a hillside below Lincoln Cathedral, the palace reflected the wealth and power of its bishops until it was damaged during the English Civil War and largely abandoned afterward. Victorian era additions, including Tudor revival work from 1886 and a chapel added in 1888, later served as a Diocesan Retreat and have operated as the Old Palace Hotel since 2009. The medieval ruins are managed separately by English Heritage, and the site carries Grade I listed building and Scheduled Monument status.
