Mount Airy Plantation

Mount Airy, near Warsaw in Richmond County, Virginia, is regarded as the first neo-Palladian villa built as a plantation house in the mid-Georgian United States, constructed between 1758 and 1762 to a design associated with John Ariss and built by William Buckland for the planter Colonel John Tayloe II. The estate's roughly 450 acres overlook the Rappahannock River valley, and the property retains the earliest surviving orangery in North America. Mount Airy was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960 and remains privately owned by Tayloe descendants.
