Mount Mourne Plantation

Mount Mourne Plantation is an 1836 plantation house in Mount Mourne, Iredell County, North Carolina, a two-story, five-bay frame dwelling in a transitional Federal and Greek Revival style, its hipped-roof entrance portico carried on four fluted Tuscan columns. It was built by Major Rufus Reid, whose plantation, among the largest in the region, grew cotton, wheat and corn using the forced labor of as many as 88 enslaved people. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, the house remains privately owned and closed to the public, though it gave its name to the surrounding community.
