Museo d'Arte Sacra della Marsica

The Museo d'Arte Sacra della Marsica is a national museum of religious art occupying nine rooms of the Piccolomini Castle in Celano, in the L'Aquila province of Abruzzo, Italy. The castle was founded in the late 14th century by the Berardi family and completed in the mid-15th century under the Piccolomini family, and the museum inside it was established in 1992 through the efforts of superintendent Renzo Mancini and the Diocese of Marsi. Its collection spans the sixth to eighteenth centuries in sculpture, painting, goldsmithing, and weaving from the Marsica region, including a Crucifixion attributed to the school of Vincenzo Foppa, a Madonna bust of about 1440 by Andrea De Litio, and the fourteenth-century stem cross of Cese, alongside the Torlonia collection of 184 objects and 344 Roman bronze coins recovered when Lake Fucino was drained.
