Old Welbourne Farm and Dulany Family Cemetery

Old Welbourne Farm and Dulany Family Cemetery is a historic farmstead of more than 620 acres near the village of Upperville in Loudoun County, Virginia, whose main house is a brick three-story building built around 1878 in the Queen Anne style and remodeled in 1910 to give it a more Colonial Revival appearance. The property also holds the remains of an earlier stone homestead built around 1812 and the 1837 Dulany family cemetery, founded by John Peyton Dulany, who lived in the original homestead before going on to build the grander Welbourne mansion and become one of the wealthiest residents of the county. Colonel Richard Dulany, born in the 1812 cabin on the property, founded the Piedmont Fox Hounds in 1840, described as the oldest fox-hunting group in the United States, and established the Upperville Colt and Horse Show in 1853; he is buried in the family cemetery. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 6, 2014, and remains privately owned and not open to the public.
