Oriente Station

Oriente Station is a transportation hub in the Parque das Nacoes district of Lisbon, Portugal, designed by the architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava and completed in 1998 for that year's Expo 98 world's fair. The station combines a mainline and high-speed rail terminus, a Lisbon Metro station, and bus terminal facilities in a single complex, with its train platforms raised about 19 meters above street level and covered by a lattice roof of glass and steel supported on branching concrete columns that have been compared to a grove of trees or to Gothic vaulting. By elevating the rail line, the design removed what had been a physical barrier between the city and the Tagus riverfront. It remains one of Lisbon's principal transport interchanges.
