Plumbush

Plumbush is a Gothic Revival house built in 1865 near Cold Spring, New York, by architect George Edward Harney for Robert Parker Parrott, the inventor of the Parrott rifle and superintendent of the nearby West Point Foundry. The design follows the picturesque principles popularized by Andrew Jackson Downing's pattern books, arranging three rectangular sections under varied, asymmetrical rooflines with decorative medieval detailing meant to harmonize the house with its natural setting. Parrott lived there with his wife Mary Kemble, niece of foundry founder Gouverneur Kemble, until his death in 1877. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1992, the property has more recently housed the Manitou School, a private elementary school.
