Porta San Vitale, Bologna

Porta San Vitale, also called Porta per Ravenna, was an eastern gate of Bologna's outer medieval walls in Italy, built in 1286 and standing on the piazza that still carries its name, just west of the junction of Via San Vitale with the city's ring road. Its defensive tower was demolished in the early sixteenth century, its drawbridge was removed in the late eighteenth century, and its outer forework and ravelin were taken down between 1950 and 1952. Despite these losses the gate itself still stands today.
