Price Tower

Price Tower stands in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, completed in 1956 to a design by Frank Lloyd Wright and remains the only skyscraper Wright ever saw built. The nineteen-story tower grows from a central reinforced concrete core, from which each floor cantilevers outward independently in a structural arrangement Wright compared to the branching of a tree, an approach he had first developed on paper decades earlier for an unbuilt New York apartment tower. Clad in copper and glass, the building mixes office space with residential apartments on a rotated, four-pointed floor plan, giving each unit an unusual triangular geometry and views in multiple directions. Commissioned by the Price family, owners of a local pipeline construction company, the tower remains one of the few tall buildings Wright completed and is preserved today as a National Historic Landmark.
