Q1, whose name abbreviates Queensland Number One, is a 322.5-meter, 78-story residential skyscraper on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, designed by SDG with the Buchan Group for developer Sunland Group and completed in November 2005. Its twisting, ribbon-like facade was inspired by the Sydney 2000 Olympic torch and the Sydney Opera House. On completion it was the tallest building in Australia and, from 2005 to 2011, the tallest residential building in the world; it remains the second-tallest skyscraper in the Southern Hemisphere. The tower's SkyPoint observation deck, on its upper floors, is described as Australia's only beachside observation deck.
