Queen Victoria Building

The Queen Victoria Building is a heritage listed late nineteenth century building at 429 to 481 George Street in the Sydney central business district, in the Australian state of New South Wales. Designed by architect George McRae in the Romanesque Revival style, it was constructed between 1893 and 1898 and measures 30 metres wide by 190 metres long, filling a city block bounded by George, Market, York and Druitt streets. Built as a marketplace, it was put to a variety of other uses over the following decades and fell into decay before its restoration and return to its original purpose in the late twentieth century. The building was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 5 March 2010 and is co-owned today by the City of Sydney and Link REIT.
