Salesforce Tower rises in downtown San Francisco, completed in 2018 to a design by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, the firm the architect Cesar Pelli founded and that, under his successors, also designed Malaysia's Petronas Towers decades earlier. At 326 meters it is the tallest building in San Francisco, its tapered form and rounded profile intended to reduce its visual bulk against the surrounding skyline while maximizing efficient office floor plates. The tower's crown carries Rise, a large public art installation by the artist Jim Campbell that uses thousands of programmable LED lights to project abstract, diffused imagery of the city onto the building's exterior after dark, one of the largest such installations in the world. A skybridge links the tower directly to the elevated rooftop park atop the neighboring Salesforce Transit Center, which shares its corporate naming sponsor. The building was developed under the working name Transbay Tower before Salesforce acquired naming rights ahead of its completion.
