Schumann House, Leipzig

The Schumann House is a museum at Inselstrasse 18 in Leipzig, Germany, in a neoclassical building put up in 1838 by Friedrich August Schiedel. Composers Robert and Clara Schumann lived there for the first four years of their marriage, from their 1840 wedding until 1844, and Robert composed major works there including the Spring Symphony, three string quartets, and a piano quintet while the couple entertained musicians such as Felix Mendelssohn, Franz Liszt, and Hector Berlioz. Exhibition rooms on the first floor now document the Schumanns' life and music, and the rest of the building houses the Clara Schumann primary school.
