The Semperoper stands on the Theaterplatz in Dresden, Germany, originally designed by Gottfried Semper and opened in 1841 in a style blending Renaissance, Baroque and classical Greek Revival elements. Destroyed by fire in 1869, it was rebuilt to a Neo-Renaissance design by 1878, then reduced to its outer shell by Allied bombing in 1945; it was fully reconstructed and reopened in 1985 with the same Carl Maria von Weber opera performed before its destruction. It is home to the Saxon State Opera, the Saxon State Orchestra and the Semperoper Ballet.
