Tenuta Reale (Viareggio)

Tenuta Reale, meaning Royal Estate, was a landed property on the outskirts of Viareggio, Italy, carved out as a private estate in the 1810s when it covered several hundred hectares, though its size later shrank through expropriations and sales. The estate belonged to the ducal House of Bourbon-Parma and its descendants, who from the 1890s married into the House of Habsburg-Lothringen, and in 1985 its remains were donated to the municipality of Viareggio. At the center of the estate stood a large mansion known as Villa Borbone, which forms part of the local architectural heritage; its most notable feature is a sepulchral chapel holding the remains of several historical figures connected to the estate. The villa is open to the public today and hosts exhibitions, conferences and concerts.
