The Tianjin Binhai Library in the Binhai district of Tianjin, China, opened in October 2017, designed by the Rotterdam firm MVRDV working with the Tianjin Urban Planning and Design Institute. Nicknamed the Eye for the luminous spherical auditorium at its center, the five level building wraps floor to ceiling terraced bookshelves around the sphere and holds about 1.2 million books across some 33,700 square meters. It is one of five buildings forming the Tianjin Binhai Cultural Center and was completed on an accelerated three year construction schedule.
