Torre Reforma

Torre Reforma rises along Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City, completed in 2016 to a design by the Mexican architect Benjamin Romano of LBR&A Arquitectos. At roughly 246 meters it was the tallest building in Mexico at the time of its completion, its triangular floor plan bounded on two sides by massive reinforced concrete walls engineered to let the tower withstand the severe seismic activity to which Mexico City, built on a former lakebed, is especially exposed. The building incorporates the preserved facade of a historic early twentieth-century house at its base, folded into the tower's glazed third side rather than demolished, a deliberate contrast between the heavy concrete seismic walls and the lighter glass curtain wall. Torre Reforma received international recognition from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, which named it the world's best tall building for 2018.
