Torre Velasca is a mixed-use tower in central Milan, Italy, near Milan Cathedral, designed by the BBPR architectural partnership and completed in 1958, with an inauguration in 1961. Rising 26 stories to just over 100 meters, the tower carries offices and apartments in a distinctive mushroom-shaped profile, its upper floors cantilevered out wider than its base in a silhouette its architects intended to recall medieval Lombard fortress towers reinterpreted in modern reinforced concrete. It is counted among the relatively few Italian examples of post-rationalist, proto-brutalist architecture from the period, and the tower was granted historic building protection in 2011.
