Villa Bianca (Thessaloniki)

Villa Bianca, also called Casa Bianca or Villa Fernandez, is a mansion on Vassilisis Olgas street in Thessaloniki, Greece, built between 1911 and 1913 by architect Pietro Arrigoni for Dino Fernandez Diaz, a wealthy Sephardic Jewish merchant and industrialist. Built in an eclecticist style typical of early twentieth century Thessaloniki, the house was a private residence until it became the city's Municipal Art Gallery in 2013. It stands as a reminder of the city's Jewish community and its wartime losses, since Fernandez Diaz and members of his family were murdered by the Nazi SS near Lake Como in 1943 while fleeing persecution.
