Villa Corsini a Castello

Villa Corsini a Castello, near Florence, Italy, began in the fifteenth century as a rural mansion for the Strozzi family and later passed to the Rinieri family, whose garden designer Niccolo Tribolo laid out one of his earliest gardens there before his celebrated work at the Boboli Gardens. The Corsini family acquired the villa in 1697 for its position near their own Villa La Petraia and had it rebuilt in a restrained Baroque style by the architect Giovan Battista Foggini. The Italian state purchased the villa in the 1950s, and it now serves as a branch of the National Archaeological Museum of Florence.
