Villa di Quarto

Villa di Quarto is a historic villa on Via Pietro Dazzi in Florence, Italy, in the hilly area at the foot of Monte Morello, its name recalling the Roman milestones that once marked distance from the city. The villa dates originally to the fifteenth century and was substantially rebuilt in 1613 by Alfonso Parigi, the architect who also extended the Boboli Gardens, before taking on its present appearance during the nineteenth century. The three story building, about two hundred by sixty feet, has a nineteenth century loggia of three arches on paired columns, a marble hall with a frescoed vault, a grey stone staircase and a main salon roughly twenty six feet high with a vaulted, decorated ceiling. Past residents included the writer Mark Twain and members of European nobility such as Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna of Russia, and the villa underwent a structural restoration completed in 2019.
