Villa La Mauresque

Villa La Mauresque is a villa on Cap Ferrat at Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat in the Alpes-Maritimes department of France, built around 1900 in Moorish style by the missionary Felix Charmettant on a four hectare parcel, with a classical layout arranged around a central patio with arcaded galleries. The writer Somerset Maugham bought the property in 1927 and hired the architects Henri Delmotte, Marcel Guilgot and Barry Dierks to strip away its original neo-oriental details and modernize the layout, keeping it as his main residence until his death in 1965. Lynn Wyatt acquired the villa in 1967, and the Ukrainian businessman Dmitry Firtash became its owner around 2005; classified as a protected cultural property since November 2008 and listed in France's General Inventory of Cultural Heritage, it remains a private residence.
