Villa Margherita, Bordighera

Villa Regina Margherita di Savoia, commonly known as Villa Margherita, is a former royal residence on Via Romana in Bordighera, in the Italian region of Liguria, built between March 1914 and October 1915 for Queen Margherita of Savoy to a design by architect Luigi Broggi in an eighteenth century Baroque style. The queen, who often stayed in the area, died at Bordighera on January 4, 1926, and the House of Savoy later donated the villa. The city of Bordighera and the Province of Imperia acquired the building in 2008 and carried out a two year restoration funded by the Terruzzi Foundation. The villa is now protected by Italy's Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism and operates as a museum housing the art collection assembled by Angelo Guido Terruzzi.
