Villa Massimo, short for Deutsche Akademie Rom Villa Massimo, is a German cultural institution in Rome housed in the villa of the same name, established in 1910 by the patron and entrepreneur Eduard Arnhold on a property that had previously been the suburban villa of the aristocratic Massimo family. Arnhold commissioned the main building for official events along with ten studios and adjoining residences, then donated the villa to the Prussian state. It now houses the German Academy in Rome's fellowship program, one of the most prestigious awards for German artists, architects, composers and writers to study abroad, and is managed by Germany's Federal Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Media.
