Villa Muller

Villa Muller is a house in the Stresovice district of Prague designed by the architect Adolf Loos and built in 1930 for Frantisek and Milada Muller, Frantisek being an engineer and co-owner of the Kapsa-Muller construction company. It is one of the clearest built examples of Loos's Raumplan, his principle of organizing a building's rooms at different levels according to their function and importance rather than laying them out on uniform floors. The exterior is a plain white cubic volume, following Loos's rejection of applied ornament, while the interior is finished in marble, wood, and silk, creating a deliberate contrast between an austere public face and richly appointed private rooms.
